Avalon routs Mount Calm to stay undefeated

A shortage of officials across the state for the Avalon Eagles to move their road contest against Mount Calm from Friday to Thursday. Luckily, the Eagles offense got the message.

Avalon scored the first four touchdowns over the first 16 minutes of action en route to a 56-6 victory.

Avalon quarterback Miguel Padron tossed touchdown passes of 15, 25 and 54 yards to Bryan Faber and Marcos Kinser (2 TD), respectively, to open the scoring. Padron then rushed home from four yards out with 8:02 to play in the second quarter for his first of three rushing touchdowns.

The senior quarterback added a 12-yard touchdown pass to Justin Dean and runs of 57 and 3 yards to cap the Eagles scoring.

Kinser scored a 26-yard rushing touchdown with 7:23 to play in the third quarter to enact the mercy-rule.

Padron finished the game with 162 yards and four touchdowns through the air on 5-of-6 passing. He also added 119 yards and three touchdowns on just six carries.

Kinser hauled in a team-high four passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns.

Rhett Newton rushed once for 43 yards and also completed both of his passing attempts for six yards.

Newton led the Eagles defense with 12 total tackles and forced one of four Mount Calm fumbles. Tristan Smith, Jessy Morones and Kevin Vidales (2) all recovered at least one fumble.

UP NEXT

The Eagles improved to 5-0 on the season and have two non-district games to play before 11-1A action begins.

Avalon has outscored its opposition 291-83 over the first five games.

The Eagles return to action at 7:30 p.m. Friday at home against Trinidad.
