Though neck-and-neck for most of the week, a late Friday push and a new record number of votes decided the week 8 KBEC Sports Player of the Week.
And it was a long-awaited win in the weekly poll for the passionate Palmer Bulldog faithful, as Carson Cisneros received 101,470 of the 202,817 votes (50.03%) to edge Italy running back Jaiden Barr (77,997 votes, 38.46%).
The cumulative vote total set a new KBEC Sports Player of the Week record, blowing past the previous high of 95,162 votes set following week 3 (Sept. 17-19) of the high school football season.
Yes, there were more votes for Cisneros alone in the week 8 poll than in any other KBEC Sports Player of the Week poll this season.
Of course, the victory for Cisernos also comes after his cousin and Palmer quarterback, Carson Cisneros, had previously finished as a runner-up in the poll — twice.
Cisneros received the votes from his hometown after he shined on both sides of the football for the still-unbeaten and then-tenth-ranked Bulldogs against Edgewood in the week 8 KBEC Sports Game of the Week.
He tied for the team lead with 15 total tackles on the defensive side of the football during the 41-16 district victory, while also catching four passes for 76 yards and two touchdowns. His receiving yardage and tackle totals were both new season-highs.
Cisneros will be presented with a commemorative KBEC Sports Player of the Week certificate at a date to be announced.
Midlothian Heritage quarterback Cade Sumbler (15,961 votes, 7.87%) and the Red Oak defense (7,389 votes, 3.64%) also received votes in the week 8 poll.
