Cleared for flight: Jalen Reagor inks 4-year contract with Philadelphia Eagles

Though nothing much more than a formality, Jalen Reagor officially became a Philadelphia Eagle early Monday.

Reagor hopped on an airplane and departed Dallas for Philly shortly after news broke of his four-year, $13.3-million contract. The rookie deal for the 2017 Waxahachie graduate also includes a fifth-year team option.

The Eagles selected Reagor with the 21st overall pick in the first round of the 2020 draft. The Waxahachie product had spent the previous three years at Texas Christian University.

Reagor, who measures in at 5-foot-11 and 205 pounds, ended his TCU career with 148 receptions for 2,248 yards and 22 touchdowns. He also added a pair of punt-return and rushing scores.

Reagor’s first-round selection made him the second-highest NFL draft pick from Ellis County, coming in just behind Richard Chapman, who was selected 13th overall in the 1954 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions.

Chapman chose not to sign with the Lions, ultimately passing the highest-drafted Ellis County tag to Reagor’s father, Montae Reagor (2nd round, 58th overall, 1999).

For another local comparison, Aldrick Robinson, a 2007 Waxahachie graduate and former NFL wideout, signed a four-year rookie contract valued at $2.14 million in 2011 after his stellar career at Southern Methodist University. Robinson went on to spend eight seasons in the NFL, having last suited up for the Carolina Panthers during training camp and the preseason in 2019.

According to Spotrac.com, Robinson earned just shy of $5.6 million during stints with the Baltimore Ravens, Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers, Minnesota Vikings, Carolina Panthers and the Washington football club.

Reagor and the rest of the Eagles’ rookies are expected to report to training camp on Tuesday, while the players recovering from injuries will arrive Thursday. All other Eagles on the 90-man roster will join the camp on Tuesday, July 28.

The Eagles will utilize the team’s NovaCare Complex and Lincoln Financial Field, both located in Philadelphia, throughout their 2020 training camp.
