Following a week that saw seven Ellis County football programs enjoy a bye, the action returned Friday for a near full-slate of district action with plenty of playoff implications on the line.
Stats, standout players and recaps will be added throughout the weekend.

CLASS 6A
(4-2, 2-1) WAXAHACHIE 10, (4-2, 3-0) Cedar Hill 14 – Final
The Cedar Hill Longhorns needed every minute of their homecoming to stave off a Waxahachie upset Friday night at Longhorn Stadium.
Make no mistake about it: Waxahachie dominated all but the final three minutes of the District 7-6A contest.

No. 4 (6-0, 3-0) ENNIS 42, (1-5, 0-3) North Forney 13 – FINAL
The still-undefeated No. 4 Ennis Lions took care of district business Friday on the road against North Forney. The Lions left little doubt, per usual.

No. 6 (5-1, 2-0) Colleyville Heritage 48, (1-5, 1-1) RED OAK 21 – FINAL
State-ranked Colleyville Heritage used a stellar second half to defeat Red Oak, 48-21, at Billy Goodloe Stadium on Friday night in a crucial district showdown.
Red Oak outgained the talented Colleyville Heritage offense 214 total yards to 124 in the opening half. In fact, Colleyville mustered just 2 total rushing yards on seven attempts. The Hawks also more than doubled the number of first downs (15-6).
It was, unfortunately, three turnovers (one fumble, two INTs) that proved to be the difference in the first half.
Red Oak quarterback Jaylon Robinson finished the first half 9-of-22 for 129 yards and one touchdown to two interceptions. The score came when he found Warren Robinson for a 49-yard touchdown to tie the game at 7-all with 7:14 play in the first quarter.
Heritage added a second touchdown four plays later when Weston Smith connected with Hogan Wasson for a 49-yard score.

No. 9 (5-1) MIDLOTHIAN HERITAGE 43, (2-4) Brownwood 25 – FINAL
State-ranked Midlothian Heritage dominated the Lions of Brownwood on Friday night at Gordon Wood Stadium.

A safety near the end of regulation sealed the victory for Italy at Gladiator Stadium on Friday evening.

(2-5) Covington 0, (4-3) AVALON 22 – FINAL
The Avalon Eagle offense poured it on in the second half against Covington for a convincing homecoming win at Eagle Stadium.
Avalon outscored the Owls 42-14 in the second half for the mercy-rule win, 64-14.
