For the first time this football season, a defensive-only player was selected as the KBEC Sports Player of the Week.
Patrick Blair, a senior at Ferris High School, received 22,223 of the 42,951 votes cast over the two-day poll to be named the week six KBEC Sports Player of the Week. By receiving 51.74% of votes, Blair edged Ennis quarterback Collin Drake (16,031; 37.32%) as the top vote-getter.
The 6-foot-1, 160-pound Ferris senior recorded a game-high 14 total tackles (6 solo), one interception and one pass breakup in a 36-15 loss Friday against Caddo Mills. He also had one kick return for 19 yards.
Blair is currently averaging 11.2 tackles per game (56 total) and the interception was his first of the young season. He has notched double-digit tackles over each of the past three games, with the 14 tallied Friday being a new career-high after previously recording 13 and 12 tackles against Athens and Quinlan Ford, respectively.
Blair will be presented with a commemorative KBEC Sports Player of the Week certificate at a date to be announced.
In addition to Drake, Italy kicker Jesus Luna (4,421 votes, 10.29%) and Avalon quarterback Miguel Padron (276 votes, 0.64%) also received votes in the week six poll.
