WAXAHACHIE
A two-sport Waxahachie student-athlete has announced her commitment to a Division II softball powerhouse.
Senior slugger Hope David made her decision to attend Tarleton State University official via Twitter on Monday, Aug. 19.
“I am beyond blessed to announce that I will be furthering my education and softball career at Tarleton State University,” David stated. “Thank you to everyone who pushed me to make my dreams become a reality.”
Neither David nor any other non-football student-athlete can officially ink a National Letter of Intent any earlier than Nov. 13.
The senior softball and swimming standout is set to graduate from Waxahachie High in May — and her bat, glove, breaststroke and leadership will surely be missed.
During her junior campaign, David tied since-graduate Chole Hernandez with a team-best six home runs during the Lady Indians run to the area round of the 6A playoffs. Waxahachie (20-11) fell to Eaton in the second round after upsetting Duncanville in the bi-district championship.
David led the Lady Indians with 36 RBIs and 24 base knocks while finishing second in batting average (.424), slugging (.717) and doubles (9). She also scored 32 runs (4th) and drew 13 walks to just 10 strikeouts over her 110 plate appearances.
Following the season, David was selected to the All-District 7-6A first team by district coaches, as well as named to the All-Ellis County first-team first baseman by the Waxahachie Daily Light.
She is also a three-year letter winner on the Waxahachie Lady Indians swim team.
Once on campus in Stephenville, David will join a seasoned group of Tarleton State Texans that is led by power-hitting Midlothian alumna Georgia Capell.
Capell, a sophomore picked up a slew of national awards this past season while helping the Texans to a 40-15 record and an NCAA South Central Regional Championship appearance. She led the Texans with 18 home runs and has 35 round-trippers, 121 RBIs, .392 batting average and .813 slugging percentage over her two-year career.
