Week eight of the high school football season saw these four student-athletes stand just a little taller than the rest. Cast your vote early and often before the poll closes at noon Friday!

Who will be the week 8 KBEC Sports Player of the Week?

Jaiden Barr (Italy) played with a heavy heart and laser focus Friday night for the Italy Gladiators in a 41-0 district win against Axtell. Before taking the field, the sophomore running back dedicated his game to his late mother, Taree Singleton, who lost her battle with breast cancer one year ago. He then went on to rush 18 times for 323 yards and three touchdowns, including a 95-yard touchdown scamper. Many players, teammates and coaches wore pink ribbons in Taree's honor, as well. Barr's efforts lifted the Gladiators to 5-3 on the season and 3-1 in District 8-2A.
Carson Cisneros (Palmer) shined on both sides of the football for the still-unbeaten and tenth-ranked Palmer Bulldogs on Friday. He tied for the team lead with 15 total tackles on the defensive side of the football, while also catching four passes for 76 yards and two touchdowns. The (7-0, 4-0) Bulldogs defeated visiting Edgewood, 41-16, in the KBEC Sports Game of the Week. Cisneros' receiving yardage and tackle totals were both new season-highs.
The Red Oak defensive unit shutout the Dallas Adamson Leopards in a 70-0 victory on Friday night. Even more impressive was the Hawks defensive efforts that limited the Leopards to 48 total yards, with 46 of those yards coming on 30 carries (1.5 YPC). The Hawks remain ranked No. 8 in Dave Campbell's Texas Football 5A Division II poll and have now outscored opponents 395-153 on the season. The shutout was the second in the past three outings for the defense.
Cade Sumbler (Midlothian Heritage) led the Midlothian Heritage offense to a crucial District 9-4A victory against Athens on Friday. The senior quarterback completed 12-of-his-16 passes (75.0%) for 333 yards and three touchdowns. He did not throw an interception and the yardage total is a new career-best. Sumbler also rushed eight times for 25 yards and one touchdown during the win.

Jaiden Barr is the pick of the week for laying it all on the line playing for his late mother Taree Singleton who died fighting Breast Cancer just last year. October 25th will mark 1 year since she’s been gone and I know it’s weighing heavy on this kids mind. I think anyone who plays with that kind of pain within deserves it more then anyone
