Red Oak dominated Lewisville Tuesday night in a three-set sweep at home.

Lewisville tallied just 11 points in the opening two sets of the volleyball match, allowing The Lady Hawks a comfortable non-district victory, 25-6, 25-5, 25-21.

“We did some good things and executed some things that we knew we needed to work on,” Red Oak head volleyball coach Hope Porter told KBEC Sports. “We executed better than we have in the past couple of matches. We still have some work to do, but we are moving in the right direction with district coming up.”

Hailey Hunt once again led the Lady Hawks above the net with a team-best 12 hills on 24 attempts (.417-hitting percentage).

Hunt, a senior and Stephen F. Austin-commit, now boats an Ellis County-high 391 kills through 78 sets played on the season. She’s averaging five kills per set with a .311-hitting percentage.

For those new to volleyball statistics, a .180-hitting percentage is considered average, while anything over .250 is solid. A mark over .300 is phenomenal. Negative hitting percentages mean a player is scoring more for than opposing team than her own.

Katelyn Malone added eight kills for the Lady Hawks during the win against Lewisville and now has 221 on the season, while Zanobia Willis finished with six kills and three total blocks. Brishaela McHaney tied Willis with three blocks on the evening.

Carley Rushing recorded 19 assists and Makinzie Taplin had nine.

Abbie Pevehouse turned in one of the more impressive service nights this season, as the senior fired home nine aces on 19 service attempts. She did not commit an error from behind the line, either.

Ellie Davis, a sophomore, recorded four aces on 16 attempts. As a team, the Lady Hawks committed just one service error on 73 attempts (98.6%).

Davis also led the team with 13 digs, while Cammie Oliphant added nine and Hunt had six.

The victory improved the Lady Hawks to 19-9 on the season, as the group has now won 50-of-its-79 sets played and three consecutive matches.

Red Oak wraps up non-district play over its next two matches — on the road Friday against Decatur and then at home Tuesday against 6A power Mansfield Lake Ridge.

The Lady Hawks open District 14-5A action at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13 against Joshua in Red Oak.

“We have some young kids that we are working on confidence with, and I think [Tuesday] was a good match to build a little confidence and feel comfortable out on the court,” Porter added. “Hopefully, that is going to help us out on the court.”
