Life Waxahachie football coach steps down following playoff appearance

Following a trip to a 4A Division II bi-district championship, Life Waxahachie head football coach Heath Blalock stepped down Friday, a source informed KBEC Sports.

The decision comes after the Mustangs compiled a 7-4 record this season, which ended with 50-20 loss against (7-5) Palestine. The Wildcats went on the defeat Hargrave in round two and are set to face Midlothian Heritage at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Blalock has served as the head coach of the Mustangs since 2014, compiling a 34-30 record with four playoff appearances in 2014, ’16, ’17 and ’19.

His best season came in 2014 when the Mustangs finished the regular season with a 9-1 record before bowing out to Pilot Point (50-27) in the bi-district round of the playoffs. Life Waxahachie finished second behind Sunnyvale in the district standings that same season.

Blalock missed almost all of the 2019 offseason while he served overseas as a reserve member of the U.S. Army.
