Life Waxahachie flexed its defensive muscles Friday night in a rout of Kemp.
The Mustangs needed just 12 first downs and 430 yards of offense to thump the host Yellowjackets 40-0 and improve to 2-1 on the season. The breeze through Kemp was made possible thanks to the Life Waxahachie defense limiting the Yellowjackets to a measly 78 rushing yards on 45 carries and five yards through the air on 1-of-3 passing.
Trenten James led the defensive efforts for the Mustangs. He finished with nine total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, forced two fumbles and recovered one.
As a team, the Mustangs defense recorded 10 tackles for loss.
Coby Oder led the Mustangs through the air with 152 yards and one 53-yard touchdown pass to Sir Michael Veasley. Oder completed 5-of-his-8 passes, while Gage Mayfield completed 1-of-his-2 passes for 58 yards. Jamal Whitman led all Mustang receivers with 58 yards on one catch.
Mayfield and Veasley paced the Mustangs rushing attack with 76 and 74 yards, respectively. Veasley, Joiner (1-49), Chance Caro (3-12) and Whitman (4-9) all scored a rushing touchdown.
Life Waxahachie will turn its attention toward a showdown against Nevada Community at 7:30 p.m. at Mustang Stadium in Waxahachie.
