Life Waxahachie sets program-record for points in regular-season finale

The Life Waxahachie Mustangs exploded offensively to set a new program record for points in a game Friday against Quinlan Ford.

Thought Ford led 14-7 at the end of the first quarter, Life Waxahachie exploded for 34 points in the second quarter and added 30 more in the second half for the 71-39 victory.

Life Waxahachie running back SirMichael Veasley rushed 14 times for 148 yards and a game-high three touchdowns. The senior also caught two passes for 71 yards and one 43-yard touchdown.

Veasley ended the regular season with 121 carries for a whopping 1,306 yards (10.8YPC) and 19 touchdowns on the ground. He added three touchdowns through the passing game on seven catches for 178 yards.

As for Friday, Gage Mayfield (2-70) and Coby Oder (1-42) also caught touchdown passes through the air for the Mustangs — and they caught them from each other.

Mayfield completed 7-of-his-10 passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns — one to Veasley and the other to Oder. The latter completed 2-of-his-4 passes for 70 yards and one touchdown to Mayfield.

Mayfield also rushed 16 times for 218 yards and two touchdowns, while Christian May carried the football six times for 16 yards and one score.

The Mustangs rushed 50 times for 412 yards as a team, helping their offense to outpace Quinlan Ford 652 yards to 493.

Jeremiah Fultz led the Mustangs with 10 total tackles (7 solos), while Elyjah Berry (5 tackles, safety) and Trevon Brantley each recorded a sack and Trenten James and Mayfield each picked off one Panther pass.

UP NEXT

Life Waxahachie improved to 7-3 on the season with the win and finished in the third spot in District 9-4A with a 3-2 record.

The Mustangs will look to their first playoff win in program history on Thursday against (5-5, 3-2) Palestine. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Forney ISD’s City Bank Stadium.
