Weather conditions worsened on day two of the 3A state golf championships, but that didn’t send the Maypearl Panther golf team out-of-bound in their hopes of a top-10 placing.

The Panthers began day two in 6th place and ultimately finished 7th in the 3A state golf championships held at the Jimmy Clay Golf Course in Austin.

Maypearl followed its 326 team score on day one with 339 strokes on day two for a 665 final. Callisburg took the team title with 613 strokes over the two-day tournament, while Brock (621) and Bowie (643) also stood atop the podium. Orangefield (648), Diboll (650) and Gunter (655) finished between Maypearl and Callisburg.

Jacob Ramirez and Hunter Olson led the Panthers on day one, both firing a 79 (+7) on the course that measures 6,445 yards and cards at a par of 72. Both were inside the top 20, while Kason Gilbreath sat just outside after his opening round 81 (+9).

Olson ultimately posted a two-round 160 (+16) to lead the Panthers into the clubhouse with the 15th-lowest score in the 3A tournament.

Gilbreath (47th, 167, +23), Ramirez (48th, 168, +24) and Easton Viator (56th, 172, +28) rounded out the Maypearl scoring. Jacob Mekelburg (61st, 175, +31) also participated for the Panthers in the state tourney.
