MIDLOTHIAN — The Midlothian Heritage Jaguars snapped a rare two-game skid by thumping Alvardo in their District 5-4A opener on Friday.
The Jaguars scored 41 points in the first half on their way to a comfortable 56-23 home victory at Midlothian ISD Multipurpose Stadium.
Heritage gained 393 yards of total offense during the win, including 233 yards on 26 carries on the ground for an impressive 8.96 yards-per-rush average.
Latray Miller led the Jaguars with nine carries for 81 yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Daelin Rader matched the two touchdowns and added five rushes for 59 yards.
Rader also completed 7-of-his-12 passes for 160 yards and two scores. The senior quarterback completed his first pass of the evening to Haydon Wiginton (5-107, 2TDs) for a 61-yard touchdown. The pitch-and-catch came with 10:16 left to play in the first quarter and following the Indians’ three-and-out.
The Jaguars entered Friday having lost back-to-back non-district games to Paris (28-14) and Springtown (28-17).
Midlothian Heritage had not previously dropped consecutive games of any kind since falling to Kennedale (35-28) and Decatur (41-28) on Sept. 6 and 13, 2019. Those two losses and the two most recently halted mark the only two instances for back-to-back defeats since the Jaguars began playing varsity football in 2016. The Jaguars have never fallen in consecutive weeks during district play.
Heritage improved to 47-12 all-time with Friday’s win.

Midlothian Heritage will now turn its sights toward (2-4, 0-1) Brownwood.
The Lions fell to the (3-3, 1-0) Stephenville Yellowjackets in the 79th Battle of 377 in Friday District 5-4A Division I opener, 59-34.
Kickoff from Gordon Wood Stadium in Brownwood is slated for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9.
