No. 19 Maypearl girls’ hoops opens district slate with win

Behind three double-digit scoring performances, the Maypearl Lady Panthers basketball team continued its torrid roll into the District 17-3A portion of the schedule on Tuesday.

The Lady Panthers outscored visiting Rio Vista 28-0 in the first quarter and then heled a 40-4 lead at the half. They eventually cruised into a 72-17 victory behind a game-high 16 points from senior Sol Cabuto.

Morgan McAlister and Jaylee Dodd scored 15 and 13, respectively.
Lillie Beason just missed a double-double with nine points and 11 steals. She also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, which was matched by sophomore Lex Berryman and her four points.

The Lady Panthers also received scoring from Taysie Trejo (7 points), Mckinley Terry (6) and Faith Adams (2).

Maypearl improved to 13-4 on the season with the victory and entered the week ranked No. 19 in the TABC 3A poll.

No. 18 Grandview, Maypearl, Whitney and West all picked up wins during their respective District 17-3A openers.

The Lady Panthers return to action at 6:15 p.m. Friday at home against Whitney.
