The flawless season continued for the Life Waxahachie Lady Mustang cross-country team on Friday in Hillsboro, as the group ran away with the District 11-4A title.

“This is a huge accomplishment for Life School, these young ladies, our coaches and stakeholders,” expressed Scott Thrush, Life School’s Athletic Director. “District championships are not easy to come by, especially when you are up against such quality programs in the likes of Midlothian Heritage, Godley and Alvarado.”

The Lady Mustangs — led by two freshmen and a sophomore — have now won all seven meets they’ve competed in this season. They’ll look to make it a perfect eight-for-eight when they take to the course in the 4A Region II championships later this month.

“The girls stepped up to the place they needed to maintain first place,” Life Waxahachie head cross-country coach Daniel Dagen said. “They put in a lot of mileage.”

Freshman Emeri Adames paced the field in a time of 12:01 in the 2-mile run, placing her in first overall. Charzelle Williams finished second by a stride in a time of 12:02, while Jordyn West placed third in 12:07 and Evelyn Rodriguez finished fifth at 12:42.

The team also includes Kamilah Rodriguez, Jaci O’neal, and Natacia Ruiz. The Lady Mustangs, currently ranked No. 7 in the state by Texas MileSplit, ultimately finished with a total team time of 1:03:15.

Adding to the success, the Life Waxahachie varsity boys cross-country team took second place in the 3-mile run with a time of 1:31:17, meaning both varsity teams qualified for the 4A Region II meet on Nov. 10 at the Jesse Owens Athletic Complex in Dallas.

The Mustang boys’ team consists of Jackson Sibley-Maxwell, Timothy Williams, Jeremiah Thibeaux, Isaac Weiss, John Hawkins, Maxwell Melton and Jose Gonzales.

“There was a nice crowd out supporting our athletes today, and you could feel the energy and excitement for them,” Trush described of Friday morning’s atmosphere. “That’s what makes sports so special.

“Even in the current environment we are in with plenty of negativity and unease swirling around, these Lady Mustangs are giving us hope,” he added. “Bringing others together, they are giving us all something to look forward to and be proud of.”
