A record-setting number of votes for two Ellis County athletes decided the winner of the week 11 KBEC Sports Player of the Week poll.

When the final votes were tallied, Palmer running back Dylan Tyree had received 312,205 (53%) of the new-record 589,055 total votes.

He needed every one of them too, as Red Oak senior running back CJ Palmer received 241,512 (41%) votes following his two-touchdown, 120-yard performance against Seagoville.

The number of votes cast this past week surpassed the previous high of 550,028 votes following week 9 of the football season. Life Waxahachie running back SirMichael Veasley received 231,115 (42.02%) of those votes for the then-single player highwater mark.

Palmer and Tyree both blew by that number in the week 11 poll.

Tyree received his player-of-the-week honor following his three touchdowns and 106 yards on 11 carries in a 45-15 victory against Blooming Grove.

Two of those touchdowns came in the second half to help the Bulldogs seal the first undefeated regular season in program history. Tyree also surpassed the 1,000-yard plateau with the performance.

Life Waxahachie quarterback Gage Mayfield (20,741 votes, 3.52%) and Midlothian defensive lineman JT Cavender (14,597 votes, 2.48%) also received votes in the weekly poll.

This marks the second KBEC Sports Player of the Week honor for a Palmer Bulldog, as Carson Cisneros received the honor following week eight of the football season.

Both Tyree and Cisneros will be presented with a commemorative KBEC Sports Player of the Week certificate at a date to be announced. Tyree will also a special guest on The Press Box, a weekly sports talk radio show that airs live from 6-7 p.m. on Monday nights on KBEC 1390AM/99.1FM.

The KBEC Sports Player of the Week poll is presented by Ellis Down Home and The Waxahachie Sun.
