Waxahachie swim team finishes 1st, 2nd in Duncanville tri-meet

By Annaleise Saenz | SPECIAL to KBEC Sports

The Waxahachie swim team proved to be quite a bit faster than Duncanville and South Grand Prairie in a 6A tri-meet held this past week.

The meet was held Wednesday, Oct. 13 at the Duncanville ISD Natatorium.

The Lady Indians dominated the pool and took first in five-of-six individual events. Not only did the girls show up to win individually — but they also ruled their lanes as relay teammates.

The Lady Indians placed first in all three (A) relay races. Those relays included the 200-medley relay, 200-free relay and 400-free relay.

As for the Indians, the boys raced hard as well, ultimately placing second overall.

The Indians exited the pool with four first-place finishes out of their five individual events. The team also finished with two second-place finishes in the team (A) relays while also taking the top spot in an intense 200-freestyle relay.

The highlight of the evening was when junior Tyeler Hess came within 4/100s from breaking the individual 50-free record set in 2003. Head swim coach Tamra Pruitt does not expect for that longstanding record to last much longer.

Pruitt also encourages supporters of Waxahachie athletics to attend an upcoming meet to cheer on the hardworking Indians and Lady Indians. The next swim meet is the Keller ISD Invitational slated for 7:40 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23 at the Keller ISD Natatorium.

The following are the WHS Individuals and Relays that placed in the top 5 of their events:
