A stellar fall season has the Waxahachie tennis team headed to the 6A postseason for the first time in program history.
The Indians began the 7-6A season by winning the first two matches — a 15-4 home win against DeSoto and a 16-3 road victory against Cedar Hill — to improve to 5-0 on the season.
Following back-to-back losses to Mansfield Lake Ridge and Mansfield, Waxahachie bounced back with three consecutive wins to clinch a playoff berth.
The first victory came Sept. 17 on the road against Grand Prairie, 18-1.
Waxahachie then clinched a postseason berth with a 14-5 Senior Night victory at home against Mansfield Summit on Sept. 24. They then defeated South Grand Prairie, 15-4, to wrap up the regular season.
The victory improved the team’s overall record to 8-2 on the season and 5-2 in 7-6A, which placed the Tribe third in the final district standings.
Team captains for the 2019-20 season are Thaddeus Horton, Kaleigh Smith, Landri Kirk, Alexis Perez and Julian Garza.
