Homecoming festivities led to a police escort out of town and a Waxahachie Lady Indian victory on the volleyball court Friday in Waco.

The Lady Indians picked up their fourth consecutive District 11-6A victory by sweeping Waco Midway, 25-14, 25-17, 25-18.

The victory improved Waxahachie to 14-3 overall and 8-2 in district action. With four district matches to play, the Lady Indians are tied with (11-4, 8-2) Mansfield Lake Ridge for second place and are three games clear of fourth-place Duncanville.

Waxahachie has officially claimed one of the four 11-6A playoff berths, marking the 19th consecutive playoff appearance for the Lady Indians under head coach Sandy Faussett-Stoops.

Senior outside hitter Kate Morgan led the Lady Indians’ attack Friday night with 12 kills, while Emma Smithey and Jh’Kyah Head each tallied 10 and Bri Harper had six.

Smithey posted an impressive .470-hitting percentage, as well.

Taylor Cavazos and Maddie Fuller supplied 15 and 13 assists, respectively.
Brooklyn Baskin led the team with seven digs on the backline, while Fuller and Morgan each tallied five and Smithey and Cavazos had four.

The Lady Indians scored 17 points with Avery Long behind the service line. The senior also recorded four aces.
