No. 9 Red Oak Lady Hawks defeat Burleson Centennial

By Travis M. Smith | KBEC Sports

Three Lady Hawks scored in double-figures to lead Red Oak to a 52-44 victory at home against Burleson Centennial on Dec. 3.

Micah Cooper, Breanna Davis and Aniyah Johnson each scored 11 points in the win that saw the Lady Hawks pour in 33 second-half points.

De’odrianna Medlock added eight points to the winning effort, while Amyia Bowie (6 points), Markeya Mack (2), Halei Parks (2) and Makinzie Taplin (1) also chipped in.

Following the game, Red Oak head coach Darren Eubanks told KBEC Sports that the Lady Hawks committed too many turnovers and did not rebound particularly well.

“I expect us to be a good team and to play hard and to execute well,” Eubanks said. “We have to leave everything on the floor. That’s my expectation for this team and we’ll see how it goes.”

He added that Medlock stepped up when her number was called and “made some big plays tonight.”

Amyria Walker led Centennial with a team-best 15 points. She scored 10 of those in the first quarter, as the Lady Hawks defense limited the Lady Spartans to just 21 second-half points.

The victory was part of a seven-game winning streak that stretched from Nov. 25 to Dec. 7. The Lady Hawks have since won two of three — which includes victories against Waxahachie (54-48) and Cleburne (70-41) — to improve to 14-4 on the season and 1-0 in District 14-5A.

The string of wins also vaulted the Lady Hawks to No. 9 in the most-recent TABC 5A girls’ basketball poll.
